Head Varsity Coach - Jeremy Smith


Jeremy Smith is a 1995 graduate of Appling County High School. After graduation Coach Smith continued his education
at Brewton Parker College in Mt. Vernon, Georgia where he graduated in 2003. Coach Smith teaches Social Studies at Appling Middle School.
Coach Smith also played baseball for the Pirates from 1992-1995. He was a member of the team that made its first playoff appearance in 1992. Jeremy began his career as a community coach 1999-2000 in Appling County where he has remained throughout his career.

He began his coaching career as Head Junior Varsity coach during the 2003-2004 seasons. He was named the head coach of the Pirates starting the 2005 season and has lead his teams to the state playoffs all four years. All of the playoff appearances have reached the sweet sixteen. In 2006 the team was region runner-up and in 2010 the team achieved its best season yet advancing to the elite eight and a final record of , the Pirates were 26-7 and won their second region 2AA title.

Jeremy is married to the former Dana Redman of Baxley and they have two beautiful daughters, Kellyn and Anna Klare.

Assistant Coach - Tyler Cason


Tyler is a 2004 graduate of Jeff Davis High. He played for the current Yellow Jacket Coach Paul Glass as a starting third baseman making the state playoffs in 2002, 2003, and ending his playoff career as a Yellow Jacket in 2004 as AA State Runner-Up.

Tyler attended Valdosta State University where he received a B.S. in Early Childhood and a Masters degree in Special Education. He is currently teaching 1st and 3rd grade Math and Reading at Altamaha Elementary School.

He will be an Assistant Varsity coach in 2011.











Head Junior Varsity Coach - Andy Dowdneny



Coach Andy Dowdney is a 1986 graduate of Appling County High School. He continued his education at Georgia Southern University and Brewton Parker College where he graduated in 1994 with a B.A. in PE, Health and Recreation. Coach Dowdney teaches Physical Education at Appling Middle School.

He played baseball for the Pirates from 1983-1986 for Dr. Keith Johnson and coach John Redman. He received Appling's Defensive Player of the Year in 1985.

Coach Dowdney began his coaching career in 1995, coaching Middle School baseball and softball. He has a combined seven conference championships. He assisted the Pirates Varsity from 2007- 2009. In 2011 Dowdney will be the head JV coach and assistant Varsity coach.

Coach Dowdney is married to Janey and they have two beautiful daughters, Jessy and Sydney and one son, Drew.



Head Middle School Coach - Jarred Crumpton

Crumpton

Jarred is a 2003 graduate of Jeff Davis High. He played for current Yellow Jacket Coach Paul Glass making the state playoffs in 2002 and 2003 as a starting shortstop and pitcher. Jarred attended Georgia Southern University where he received a degree in Middle Grades Education. He is currently teaching Science at Appling Middle School.
